My journey through mental health therapy and healing began in childhood. I was seen as a quiet child, not very social, often the quieter one amongst the crowd. However, it wasn't until later that I realized I was dealing with social anxiety and a lot of unresolved trauma buried under the 'normal life' I had to live. My anxiety recovery process would reveal itself in many ways, including physical symptoms such as hot flushes, a racing heartbeat, and a tense butterfly stomach, with the biggest issue being my safety behaviors. Little did I know that this was all connected to my dysregulated nervous system. People often ask in therapy, what's the first step to healing? The best answer is that your body knows.
